About this policy

Dhamma Friends helps people find and organise in-person meditation sits, groups and friendships. This policy covers the Dhamma Friends website and app. For privacy questions or requests, contact Miles Disch at hello@dhammafriends.com.

Information we use

We use your email address, account identifier and authentication information to manage your account. If you sign in with Google, Google provides basic account information such as your email, name and profile information. Dhamma Friends does not request access to your Gmail messages, Google Drive files or contacts.

Profiles and community activity

We store the profile details you provide, such as your display name, practice preferences and approximate home area, together with sits you host or join, group memberships and friendship requests. Profile information can be available to other signed-in users. Meditation preferences may reveal personal beliefs: avoid entering details you do not want to share. Sit, group and attendance information is shown according to the relevant visibility and membership settings. Exact sit locations are available to people who join the sit.

Location

When you allow foreground location access, the app uses your device location to find nearby sits and groups. Coordinates are sent to Supabase for nearby searches. A town-name lookup sends coordinates rounded to two decimal places, approximately a kilometre, to OpenStreetMap Nominatim; the app may fall back to your device geocoding service. A saved home area is rounded before storage. Your device permission settings let you turn location access off; location-dependent features may then be unavailable.

Why information is used

Information is used to authenticate accounts, display community profiles, find nearby activities, manage participation and friendships, send account emails, respond to support requests and operate and secure the service. Hosting and authentication providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, request times and error logs for delivery, security and troubleshooting.

Service providers and sharing

Supabase provides authentication and database hosting; the current database is hosted in Sydney, Australia. Vercel hosts the website. Resend delivers account emails and processes recipient addresses and email content; the configured sending region is Tokyo, Japan. Google provides Google sign-in. OpenStreetMap Nominatim provides town-name lookups. Providers may process information outside Australia. We may also disclose information when required by law or to address misuse and safety concerns.

Storage, security and retention

The app stores authentication sessions on your device using browser local storage or native app storage. It also saves device preferences such as appearance. Access controls limit database access, and SMTP credentials are stored encrypted by Supabase. We keep account and community records while needed to provide the service, and may retain information needed for security, legal obligations or resolving disputes. Provider logs and backups follow their retention arrangements. No storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security.

Your choices and requests

You can edit the available profile fields, leave sits and groups, sign out and revoke device location permission. To request access, correction or deletion of your personal information, or to make a privacy complaint, email hello@dhammafriends.com. We may need to verify that a request is yours. Deletion may be subject to legal obligations, records needed to protect the service and backup retention; we will explain any relevant limitation when responding.

Changes

We will update this page when the service or its data handling changes. The date below identifies the current version.
